Dream Portrait Africa

A visual archive of African dreams in the making.

Manifesto

We believe every child carries a dream
before they have the words to name it.

Dream Portrait Africa Initiative exists
to make that dream visible.

We do not photograph where children come from.
We frame who they can become.

Through a single portrait,
a child is seen with dignity, belief, and possibility.
These images are created
so children can see who they can become,
and expand the futures they imagine,
and so the future remembers
where belief began.

This is Dream Portrait Africa.
Framing dreams. Inspiring futures.

About Dream Portrait Africa

Dream Portrait Africa is a visual storytelling initiative exploring childhood dreams, identity, and imagination through portraiture and lived experience.

Working with children from underserved communities, the project creates portraits that reflect who they dream of becoming — while giving space for their voices, stories, and aspirations to be heard.

Through photography, audio, film, exhibitions, and digital storytelling, Dream Portrait Africa is building a growing visual archive of African dreams in the making.

We do not photograph where children come from.
We frame who they can become.

About BECOMING

BECOMING is the first exhibition under Dream Portrait Africa.

Developed in collaboration with Envision Rwanda and rooted in the Burera community, the exhibition brings together portraiture, audio, storytelling, and lived experience to explore how children imagine their future beyond their present reality.

Through portraits, personal stories, and recorded voices, BECOMING invites viewers into the space between who a child is today and who they dream of becoming.
